Welcome to Mi Presidente!

Estemeed readers:

Sometime in the summer of 2007, as I was driving through the arid desert of Eastern Washington State, I asked myself a question: Could this man, Barack Hussein Obama, make history by breaking down the walls of racial inequality in this country? Could this person - someone who built his political career by working from outside the traditional party system - be elected to the Presidency of the United States?
The answer to my question was quite simple - No.

First of all, there was no way anyone would be able to take on the Clinton Machine. Second, there was no way a major political party would nominate an African American as their presidential nominee. Third, who had ever really heard of this guy, Obama?

As someone who is passionate about politics and the power of politics to change the world, and as someone who at that point in time was disellusioned with our corrupt, two-party system, I figured Hillary would win the nomination (with back to back wins in Iowa and New hampshire) and she would eventually win the Presidency...
Nothing, however, would change. We would go back to the politics of old (the Clinton years), publicly repudiate the politics of Bush (and the neocons), yet continue to do nothing about the issues that affect not only our country but our world, day in and day out. Global warming, health care, immigration, etc., etc., etc.

As we all know, I was way wrong. Not even close....

This is a blog dedicated to all of those who were inspired, just as we were, to take ownership of our country and change it from the bottom up. While our candidate won this election, we understand that the real work began on November 5, and the work continues, day in and day out. Through this blog we will inform you of Our President's work and also share with you stories of everyday people - the cab drivers, dishwahsers, construction workers, hotel maids, and all of those who we encounter in our daily lives - and give you THEIR perspective on Obama, his policies, and give you an insight into the hopes and dreams of those on whose backs this country is built.
